Biography

Christian Niccoli was born in Bozen, South Tyrol (Italy) in 1976.

After the Study of Painting at the Academy of Florence, Milan, and Vienna, he transferred his center of creation to Berlin, where he lives and works ever since 2002.

Since 2001 he participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, among other things at the “Haus der Kulturen der Welt” in Berlin, at the Phönix Art-Sammlung Harald Falckenberg in Hamburg, at Museo Civico del Santo in Padova and at Kunsthaus Meran in Meran. Niccolis projects were supported by the Werkleitz Gesellschaft e.V. (Zentrum für künstlerische Bildbearbeitung Sachen-Anhalt), by Movin’up – Giovani Artisti Italiani, by Vidéographe (Centre de Recherche Médiale, Montréal) und by the artist support of the South Tyrol government.

With his works, the artist explores the mechanisms of interpersonal relationships. He researches the proportion, relationships like couples, families, circles of friends stick to groupings like cultural or sportive clubs, religious communities or neighbourhoods. Using the media video, he re-enacts everyday situations, like a park-bench hugging of two teenagers (Die Umarmung, 2000), where he changes the coordinates to reveal behind mechanisms.
