Umspannen – drawing options

audio-visual installation / Sound by Peter Szely

Umspannen
refers to a constructed relationsship between economy and art by Gerald Nestler, in which both systems, on the one hand considered to cover several categories and on the other hand considered to be transforming.

The exhibition attempts an approbation of an exemplary economic scheme (“options”), by defining its parameters, conceptional archetype and “imaginary configuration” to be an art form (“drawing”).

A kind of art trade, the “edition”, exemplarily undergoes a playful reappraisal and reassassment through economic strategies. Thereby, among other things, the limitaion of editions changes to a temporal limitation; the edition itsel is limitless. The visitors are invited to take part in an “option dealing”, that rivals a bet.

The term “option“, in general, refers to the existence of choice and variations. In the economic field “option” however describes a specific kind of derivative stock exchange dealing, that builda a fundamental aspect of international financial and resource market.

The term “drawing” describes an art technique, but is as well used in economy referencing to option dealing – and therein describes purchase and sale of one/or more option(s). An option is subscribed for shares.

– drawing options

The stock exchange terms – like “bear spread”, “long butterfly” or “short strangle” – are integrated as precise poetry, the sheets are again “subscribed” – marked.

Opposed to options is another type of “subscribing”: A monitor shows the trade of a big stock exchange, in form of a constant evolving and proceeding line.

It is constantly new drawn, generates points of relevance and -fields and defines value/non value, asset/deficit.
